Message from the MCDP Chair

Ginger Blair

Happy New Year to Democrats in Montgomery County!  2023 was a year of many accomplishments, all with our eyes on the important 2024 elections.

I want to start by thanking each and every person who has supported MCDP and the Democratic vision in any way – whether you volunteered in the office, are a Precinct Chair, stepped up to take a leadership position, donated items or money, helped with an event, led an event, attended an event, made sure you are an informed voter, VOTED, helped get out the vote, ran for office, supported a Democratic candidate, or anything else, your support and service is so appreciated. We are truly working together to save our Democracy.

If you have read our newsletters and other communications, you know of many of the accomplishments in 2023.

We are especially proud of our summer intern program that engaged nine young adults in the Democratic Party work – they got a taste of how this all works while completing several much-needed office projects and bringing new ideas and perspective to our work and communications.

We have worked hard over the past few months defining and developing work processes to become more efficient and effective.  Many people have stepped up to fill leadership roles. See the organization chart below to see which positions are filled and which still need a lead. We are having fun while getting a lot done – so think about how you might want to help in 2024 – as a lead or a team member.

As you know, 2024 will be a historical year for the United States. We are truly fighting for our nation’s democracy and for fairness and freedom for all in Texas.

We have a lot of work ahead of us before the November election. Here are some of our plans and events:

  • Strategic Planning Meeting – January
  • Go Texas Parade – February
  • Volunteer Kick-off Event – January
  • County Democratic Convention – March
  • Final Fridays – each month (focus on candidates)
  • Hispanic Outreach – regular meetings and Fiestas Patrias
  • Women of MCDP – regular meetings
  • Dem Dames Dining for Democracy – monthly lunches
  • Young Dems – regular meetings
  • African American Outreach – regular meetings
  • Veteran’s Outreach – regular meetings
  • Blue Magnolia – regular meetings
  • Restructure of Office Volunteers
  • Increased presence on social media
  • Increased presence in the media (a billboard!!)
  • Candidate Support
  • Presence at community events

But the primary focus of everything we will do in 2024 is supporting candidates and getting out the vote (GOTV)!

To that end, Communications has developed a list of Bridge Issues – those issues on which most people, whether Democrat, Republican or Independent, may agree.  We will focus on one issue a month and saturate our communications across all platforms. We certainly won’t ignore other issues, but we hope to get people outside of our Democratic world to think about specific issues and how they affect them and their families. We want to educate all voters in a non-confrontational way.

How you may help in 2024:

  • Volunteer
  • Donate
  • Support a candidate or two
  • Educate yourself and others about issues and candidates’ positions
  • VOTE in all elections
  • Attend MCDP events
  • Do one more thing than you did in 2023!!

And please see below for some information about how to celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday and his contributions to our country.

As County Chair I want to wish you and yours a wonderful, happy, prosperous, and Blue 2024!

With Sincerity and Gratitude,

Ginger
